On 23 August 1989, nearly two million people from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania formed a human chain of more than 600 kilometers, linking Vilnius, Riga, and Tallinn. Known as The Baltic Way, this extraordinary act of unity was a peaceful yet resolute call for freedom and independence, marking a pivotal moment in the Baltic nations’ struggle to reclaim their sovereignty.
Today, on the 36th anniversary of this historic event, we reflect on its enduring significance as a symbol of courage, solidarity, and peaceful resistance. The Baltic Way continues to inspire movements for freedom and democracy across the world.
The Turkish-Lithuanian Chamber of Commerce is proud to honor this remarkable legacy of unity. Guided by the same spirit of cooperation, we remain committed to fostering stronger economic, cultural, and social ties between Türkiye and the Baltic states, building bridges that support sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
